A shift away from static, place bound lifestyles to more fluid ways of being. Key design considerations included keeping the system lightweight, rainproof, and easy to deploy, while ensuring that the jacket functions and appears as a jacket, and the shelter functions and appears as a tent. Developed in collaboration with local stakeholders, the exhibition sought to create a platform for artists, designers, entrepreneurs, and cultural practitioners to share their work, strengthen networks, and engage a broad public. CHALLENGE Namibia's creative sector is rich in talent but often lacks visibility, infrastructure, and opportunities for collaboration. The challenge was to design an exhibition that went beyond showcasing creative work by creating meaningful dialogue, representing diverse voices, and making the exhibition accessible and relevant to audiences with varying levels of familiarity with the sector. It was equally important to avoid presenting a single narrative of Namibian creativity and instead reflect its diversity and complexity. PROCESS Working closely with local partners, I contributed to the exhibition concept, curatorial framework, and visitor experience. The process involved identifying key themes, shaping the narrative structure, and developing interpretive content that highlighted both established and emerging creative practitioners. Despite the wealth of knowledge and experience within the network, valuable insights, learnings, and resources were often dispersed across individuals and organizations, making it difficult for members to connect, share expertise, and learn from one another effectively.BRIEF We were asked to design and facilitate a sprint exploring how the Chroma Collective could better connect its members and enable the exchange of knowledge, insights, and best practices. The aim was to strengthen collaboration across the network, enabling members to more effectively integrate gender across international development systems and address the gaps, norms, beliefs, and values that contribute to gender inequality.PROCESS We workshopped a variety of different concepts. Our first draft concept, ‘Field notes’ explored how different voices on gender from around the world could be showcased on a platform in the form of stories, photography, or answered prompts. |&nbsp; User &amp; Material Research | Product Development PROBLEM The current reality for Kenyan families using low-cost diapers is concerning. These products typically contain substandard materials resulting in inadequate absorption, frequent leaking, and significant discomfort for babies. BRIEFIn partnership with ZanaAfrica, we set out to develop disposable and hybrid diapers that would meet the critical needs of low-income Kenyan families.CHALLENGE Our challenge was to create a product that delivers premium-level performance at an affordable price point while reducing health risks, minimizing environmental impact, and addressing the specific requirements of our target users.PROCESSOur research combined material analysis, user testing, and laboratory evaluation to build a comprehensive understanding of diaper performance. We began by investigating the material composition and construction of disposable, eco-friendly, and hybrid diapers, working with industry experts to understand quality indicators, functionality, and cost drivers. We then conducted focus groups in Nairobi, Kilifi, and Homa Bay, followed by a six-day product trial in which participants tested different diaper brands, allowing us to assess user needs, preferences, behaviours, and real-world performance. In parallel, laboratory testing measured absorption, retention, and rewet across product types. IDEATION &amp; PROTOTYPING Together with the community, we workshopped, co-created &amp; iteratively prototyped, resulting in interventions that were both evidence-based and community-owned, contributing to improved immunization service delivery. RESULT 01 The Baby Carrier We developed a baby carrier and companion bag as incentive-based tools to support clinic attendance while enhancing caregivers’ sense of pride and visibility within the community. Early concepts for a canvas bag quickly evolved into a more practical baby carrier, designed for transporting infants and featuring a dedicated pocket for the immunization card. The final carrier drew inspiration from the way Maasai shukas are traditionally tied, creating a familiar and culturally resonant form. A matching utility bag provided space for diapers and other essentials. Material Research &amp; Design Communication CLIENTGodrej &amp; Boyce’s Innovation Center Mumbai, India BRIEF The Punah Project focused on building awareness around the importance of industrial waste materials and their value as a resource. CHALLENGE At Godrej and Boyce, one of India’s largest manufacturing companies, 18,505 tonnes of industrial waste materials are generated during the manufacturing process every year. Large quantities of materials that are resource, production and energy intensive to be manufactured in the first place, are down-cycled, sent to incineration or landfill. Our objective centered around building a rigorously categorised repository of waste to ensure access to waste materials and creating a blueprint of ways in which to recycle materials and create Oil soaked cotton gloves are generally sent to incineration facilities while non-oil soaked gloves are sent to landfill.
